Bloomsburg Wrestling Takes Second at Navy Classic; Sees, Donald Win Titles
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team took second place at the Navy Classic on Saturday evening. The Huskies were narrowly edged out by Navy who had 148.5 points to Bloomsburg's 141.5.
Mike Sees (Northumberland/Shikellamy) and Ricky Donald (Millville/Millville) took home individual honors in the 125 and 133 pound weight classes.
Sees defeated Joe Coughlin of George Mason 16-5 to take the 125-pound crown. So far this season, Sees is 12-1 in tournament matches.
Donald won his title in the 133-pound bracket, defeating Will Powars of George Mason 2-0 in the title match. He did not allow a point against him in the tournament, outscoring his opponents 22-0.
Bloomsburg also had four second-place finishes on the day.
In the 141-pound title match, Tony Curto (Easton/Wilson Area) was pinned by Brandon Rader of West Virginia. Curto had won four matches before falling in the championship.
Matt Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) held the advantage in the 149-pound final until the final period, as Navy senior John Cox scored two points on a takedown to win the match 5-4.
In the 184-pound bracket, Nate Shirk (Middleburg/Midleburg) won four matches before bowing to Navy's Antonio Miranda in the finals by a score of 9-4.
Rounding out the second place finishes for the Huskies, Mike Spaid (Perkiomenville/Boyertown) was crowned as the heavyweight runner-up. He fell to Navy's Ed Prendergast in the finals.
Bloomsburg will travel to the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday for their first dual match of the season.
